Naan Bread Recipe

If you’re making curry, you need to make this deliciously soft and fluffy naan bread. Since living in Thailand and befriending a Pakistani family, I have become a big fan of curry and nothing goes better with curry than a warm, soft piece of naan bread. Yeast breads can be a bit time consuming so when I do take the time to make these, I mix together a double batch and freeze most of them – they come right back to life in the microwave on a plate covered with a paper towel.

Naan Bread

  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 1/4 c. hot water
  • 3/4 c. active dry yeast
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 c. warm milk
  • 1 c. greek yogurt


Dissolve sugar into hot water, add yeast and let sit for 10 min. Mix flour, salt, baking powder and soda in large mixing bowl. Add warm milk and greek yogurt to yeast mixture. Combine wet ingredients with the dry and mix. Knead by hand once the dough comes together. Don’t over-knead! Cover and let dough rise for 1 hour. Break off a ball of dough and roll out. Brush melted butter onto both sides of dough and cook on hot, ungreased cast iron skillet (or non-stick pan). Cook 1-2 min. on both sides. Serve warm.
